CSO Directors changing Communities across the globe meet to strategize for greater community impact.

Overview

CtGA is a joint initiative of social change organisations from 16 countries in Africa , Asia and Latin America . The programme aims to  empowers CSOs in low- and middle-income countries to be drivers of change, together with the people concerned. In addition to support organisations in building constituencies and holding governments and the private sector accountable. 

In Tanzania, the Foundation for Civil Society (FCS) is the Alliance Member  of CtGA programme. Since its establishment in 2028 over 300 Tanzania CSOs have been empowered with skills and the ability to mobilize resources locally, reducing donor dependency and building sustainable, resilient futures. Participants learn essential skills such as fundraising through community contributions and corporate partnerships, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and influencing policies to drive positive change. Beyond training, FCS provides mentorship and coaching, guiding organizations in implementing action plans, overcoming challenges, and tracking progress to ensure meaningful transformation. Through these efforts, we strengthen the capacity of local organizations to thrive and create lasting impact in their communities.

Objectives & Key Focus Areas

Foundation for Civil Society (FCS) in collaboration with Change the Game Academy (CtGA) initiative under Wilde Ganzen Foundation, hosted the Directors’ Meeting- an annual or biannual meeting of CtGA National partner organizations (NPOs) representing various countries from across the globe in Zanzibar. The meeting aimed to discuss the CtGA programme initiative’s progress at the global and country-level and set a roadmap for the future of the programme.

Speaking during the meeting, Kees de Jong, Director of Wilde Ganzen Foundation said that worldwide funding for CSOs is decreasing and CSOs especially at the grassroots are more impacted by funding challenges. CtGA is an innovative blended learning initiative implemented in 15 countries that supports grassroots social changemakers, community-based Organisations and small CSOs learn to effectively fundraise and mobilize domestic and international stakeholders to achieve programme sustainability, effectively and community impact.

CtGA works directly with the grassroots CSOs, through partnerships with NPOs to train CSOs in their constituencies.

Impact & Achievements

  • Since 2018, FCS has trained over  300 organizations in Local Fundraising Mobilizing Support, empowering them to mobilize domestic resources and engage stakeholders effectively
  • FCS-supported CSOs have moved toward financial independence by reducing dependence on foreign donors, becoming more community-rooted and legitimate in their operations
  • Public trainings and workshops by FCS have helped shift organizational mindsets—focusing on local fundraising and mobilizing support for holding government bodies accountable and reinforcing civic participation
  • By building CSOs’ capability to fundraise within their own communities, CtGA strengthens local ownership, ensures accountability, and promotes long-term sustainability.
