CALL FOR PROJECT PROPOSALS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF GOOD GOVERNANCE PROGRAMME IN TANZANIA, 2017- DEADLINE IS 16.00 HRS on 7th April 2017.

1. Introduction

The Foundation for Civil Society (FCS) is an independent Tanzanian not-for-profit development organization that provides grants and capacity building services to Tanzania based Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). Since its inception, FCS has contributed immensely to the capacity strengthening of the civil society sector in Tanzania thereby (in) directly enabling CSOs and citizens become key driving forces for positively influencing democratic governance in Tanzania, ensuring delivery of quality services especially at grassroots and thus contributing to better quality of life for Tanzanians. This is realized through provision of grants, facilitation of linkages, as well as enabling a culture of on-going learning within civil society and Tanzania as a whole. Currently, FCS is implementing a new strategic plan which covers 2016 to 2020. The strategy has four (4) key results areas which include Good Governance, livelihood/economic development, capacity strengthening and Institutional development. 2. About this call for proposal

This call for proposal invites Tanzanian civil society organizations (from both mainland and Zanzibar – Unguja and Pemba) to apply for grants to implement good governance programmes in their areas of locality. FCS Governance programme is developed in line with the understanding that there is strong and intricate nexus between poverty, inequality and governance. It is thus premised on the fact that, effective public governance on one hand helps to promote economic prosperity and social cohesion; reduce poverty; improve ecological sustainability; and on the other deepens confidence in government. It is thus worthy noting also that without good governance, bad policy choices will be made, the people would have neither voice nor power, and the economy may likely deteriorate. Similarly, when poverty and inequality persist, they limit citizen participation, threaten peace and co-existence, weaken political processes and promote deficient governance.
