Deputy Minister reiterates government’s willingness to work with CSOs

Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Ms. Ummy Mwalimu has reiterated the government’s willingness to work with the civil society sector.

 The Deputy Minister made the remarks in Dar es Salaam on 15th November at an evening gala event prepared to award best performing Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the Foundation’s grantees.

 She said: “We in the government do cherish the presence of CSOs. Even the President (Jakaya Kikwete) while at the Open Government Partneship summit in London early November 2013, he declared our willingness to work with CSOs for mutual development of this nation,” said Ms. Ummy.

 She however congratulated all 2013 CSO excellence award winners and the Foundation for marking its 10th anniversary.

 During the event, the ChakeChake, Pemba based CSO, Jumuiya ya Kudhibiti Athari za Madawa ya Kulevya na Mimba katika Umri mdogo (JUKAMKUM) emerged as an overall winner of the Civil Society Excellence Awards in 2013.

 The organisation received the award in recognition of its tremendous performance on protecting young female children against early pregnancies, advocacy against the use of drags, as well as fighting HIV/AIDS pandemic.
