MBENGONET increases vigilance of citizens over rights

    2010
    JULY
    22nd

The confidence to demand for peoples rights has increased among Mbeya NGOs and citizens at large after the training on human rights and good governance to different NGOs by the Mbeya NGO Network.

“To prove this, a head teacher of Mapogoro Primary School in Mbarali was transferred from his original working station because of misuse of public funds. This was due to heroic acts by citizens to expose the teacher to the government for his behaviour and suggested for a transfer and it was indeed implemented”, said MBENGONET chairperson, Edson Mwaibanje

Citizens are also demanding the government to give them information because it is their right, something that has led to the increased number of attendance to village meetings.  They now more than ever before, attend to ward’s incomes and expenditure meetings something which was not there prior to the training.
