    Foundation awards Best Grantees of 2008/2009

    Organisations supported by the Foundation for Civil Society have been awarded for demonstrating exemplary performance in implementing projects during the year 2008/2009.

    The award event was held during the CSOs Annual Forum in May this year at Bwawani Hotel in Zanzibar whereby six grantees emerged the best under different thematic areas.

    Deputy Chief Minister of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Hon. Ally Juma Shamhuna who was the guest of honour of the CSOs Annual Forum presented trophies to the winners of the Best Grantee Award.

    The best grantees selection process considered different criteria including creativity in designing and implementing projects, organisation’s financial management and control capacity and the general organisational capacity.

    During the event, Tanga Youth Development Association (TAYODEA) emerged the overall winner of the award, thus defending its championship attained last year.

    Also, TAYODEA won under Advocacy after showing a strong ability to advocate for vulnerable groups, especially youth.

    Other organisations emerged winners under different thematic areas including Community Active in Development Association (CADA), which won under Safety nets after demonstrating ability in supporting behavioural change of vulnerable groups.

    Jozani Environmental Conservation Association (JECA) emerged the winner of Good Governance thematic area as a result of indicating exemplary efforts in enhancing good governance at community level.

    The commendable implementation of environmental policy enabled Mkokotoni Environmental Association (MECA) become a winner of Policy engagement thematic area.

    On the other hand, Lindi Support Agency for Welfare (LISAWE) was awarded as an emerging civil society organisation after demonstrating ability to enhance relationship between its beneficiaries and the government.
